In 2008, the City of Revelstoke asked the Senior Citizens' Association to run the Volunteer Medical Transportation Program (VMTP). We now have a community of dedicated individuals who make out-of-town appointments possible for residents who have no other options available. We provide transportation to appointments in Salmon Arm, Armstrong, Vernon, Kelowna, and Kamloops.
We want residents to know that Revelstoke is a caring community. In 2024, we provided 140 medical trips, typically a minimum of 6 hours - almost 1000 volunteer hours.

The VMTP is for those individuals who require transportation to medical appointments outside of Revelstoke. It does not take the place of, or interfere with existing services.
Registered clients pay a set amount based on their previous year's notice of
annual household income for round trip, door-to-door service to Salmon Arm, Armstrong, Vernon, Kelowna or Kamloops. By providing income tax documents, clients show if they have financial constraints and pay a subsidized set amount for the cost of their trip.

Our drivers volunteer all of their time to meet the needs of the clients. This includes helping with access and providing a safe and comfortable round trip journey, door to door.
If a driver uses their own vehicle for a trip we reimburse them for costs based upon distance to the destination.
All VMTP drivers must provide detailed information including a drivers abstract and a criminal record check from the RCMP.
